In India, at the end of the winter, it is time for Holi; a spring festival which is also known as the festival of colours. During the festival people will be covered in a rainbow of coloured powders, water buckets, water-filled balloons and “pichkaris” – a kind of water gun. Holi is an ancient Hindu religious festival, originally know as “Holinka”, and is linked with several legends involving Radha and Krishna. During the celebration all people lose social restrictions and norms. Holi brings together people of all castes, sexes, status and age.
